Christmas present for my friend Kalia.

Spoiler Warning!!!!!

"Hurry! Take that man to emergency surgery!" Doctors yelled from outside Roy Mustang's open door to his hospital room. He heard footsteps run past his room and on down the hall with the squeeking wheels of a stretcher. He touched the gauze wrapped around his sightless eyes, but he could see his memories all too clearly, of how he became blind.
New footsteps came from the hall and into his bedroom. They stopped a few feet from his bed. "Can I help you with something," he asked. Roy didn't like visitors these days.
"Hi there General," came a woman's voice. "How are you doing?"
"What do you want," Roy asked almost too harshly.
The woman sighed. "A close friend of yours asked me to stop by. Her and I are friends too so I couldn't say no."
"I don't want any company, so please go away."
A grim look crossed her face and she took a seat in the chair next to his bed. "I'm not going to leave. A dear friend asked me to keep you company."
Roy sighed. "So persistent. At least tell me your name and what you look like please."
The woman smiled. "My name is Kalia Sergov, enlisted in the military, age 25, sort of short black hair, hazel eyes, and a new scar on my lip and eyepatch from the front lines."
"You lost your eye? I'm sorry to hear about that. That would explain why your here. How did it happen?"
Kalia smirked. "Well, I'm a sniper for the front lines. I was hiding in a bell tower in a city and there had been a sniper close by quietly watching me. They took my eye, but someone managed to take him out. So, how did you lose your eye sight?"
Roy frowned and turned his head away from Kalia. "I'd rather not talk about it right now." He touched the gauze that was wrapped around his eyes.
Kalia smiled, but it seemed a little sad. "Okay, you can tell me when you're good and ready."

Days passed and each day Kalia would go visit Roy in his room. They'd talk for hours at a time and sometimes Kalia would bring in a book and read it to him, poems, novels and such. A week passed as their relationship grew. They started telling each other war stories, telling jokes, and even getting into some more serious conversations.
Riza Hawkeye looked into the doorway of Roy's room. Kalia was talking to him and even getting him to laugh agian. She hasn't seen him laugh in the longest time.
She turned away from the door only to run into Jean Havoc. "Hey Hawkeye. Visiting the Genreral?"
Riza smiled. "Not exactly. I was checking up on him to see if he was okay."
"Who's the woman in the room with him?"
"A close friend of mine. I asked her to visit him. Funny thing is Roy isn't giving a fuss about her visiting him."
"That is a little strange. So are you going to talk to him?"
Riza shook her head. "No, it seems that he has all the company he needs at the moment." Riza started back down the hall to leave the building. Jean shrugged and walked into Roy's room.
"Hiya General. How've you been. oh, and who is this beautiful lady here with you?'
Roy smiled and looked in the genreal direction of Jean. "This is Kalia. Kalia, this is second lieutenate Jean Havoc."
Kalia stood and held out a hand to Jean. "Its nice to meet you." Jean took her hand, then Kalia took her seat again and Jean leaned up against the wall next to Roy's bed.
"Jean? Did you quit smoking? I can't smell tobacco on you."
"Yeah. Sure did," he said with a huge smile. "My new girlfriend asked me to quit, not that she didn't like the smell, but that she was worried about my health." His smile was almost pridefull.
All three of them talked for a bit, then Jean soon had to leave because he was meeting his girlfriend for lunch. Once Jean had left, Kalia looked out the window and her face lit up. "Hey Roy, how about I take you out for some fresh air. You've been cooped up in this room for so long."
Roy smiled. "That sounds like a wonderful idea."
A few minutes later Kalia had Roy in a wheel chair and was wheeling him out of his room for the first time since he's been in the hospital. A nurse held the door open for them and cool autum air flew into the building. Roy smiled with pleasure. He had forgotten how good the wind felt.
Kalia wheeled him onto the front porch of the hospital where patients were allowed to sit. She locked the wheels on the wheel chair and she took a seat on a rocking chair next to him. "It feels so wonderful out here. So peaceful," Roy commented. Kalia was surprised. This was a side of Roy she had never seen. "Kalia, could you give me a moment to myself please?"
"Sure thing Roy." Kalia stood and walked to the front doors where she saw Riza standing. "You're like his gaurdian," Kalia commented.
Riza smiled and looked at Roy. "This is the first time I've seen him smile in a long time. Thank you Kalia."
"Hey, I couldn't turn down an old friend. Besides, I owe you. You saved my ass out there. I was luck to have only lost an eye." Kalia laughed.
"Really Kalia, thank you som much. This means more to me than you realize."
"Hey, it was my pleasure."

The next morning, Roy sat alone in his room. He listened carefully of every foot setp that passed his room, but none of them matched the casual walk of Kalia.
Several hours passed and a nurse walked into the room with his lunch. She sat it on a tray in front of him and she handed him his fork. "You're doing much better," she commented.
"Excuse me. Do you know where Kalia Sergov is? She hasn't come in today."
The nurse blinked in surprise. "She went home with her family last night. No one told you?"
Roy dropped his fork. He was heart broken and dissappointed. She didn't even tell him goodbye. Riza walked to his door, but didn't walk in. His body language told her he was upset. "Please leave," he asked. "I don't need help to eat." The nurse sighed and walked past Riza and down the hall. Roy picked up his tray, and amazingly, he set it on his night stand without dificulty.
Riza walked into the room and sat on the stool next to his bed. "Leuitenate, would you help me with something," Roy said in a strong, leaderly voice.
Riza smiled and said, "whatever you want General."

Kalia sat in her home alone. It was night and the wind was making her house creek, but all she could hear was the rain pelting her roof. She stared into her cup of coffee, which had gone cold a few minutes ago. She just made herself coffee to give her something to do. She's not going back into work for at least another two weeks, and she doesn't have a car at the moment. So all she can do is sit in her quiet home. Now all she has is time to think.
Lightning lit up the sky and thunder cracked and shook her house. Her lights flickered then went black. Kalia sighed, then stood and pulled out a candle and a match from a drawr. She lit the candle and sat it in the middle of her table. The light cast long shadows through the room and on into the living room.
She thought about Roy and what he was doing right now. How would he take the news when he found out she had left. Kalia didn't have the heart to tell him goodbye. Things would be better if she just left without a word.
Kalia stood and poured her cold coffee into the sink, then washed it in the already water filled section of the sink, dryed it, then put it away and she went back to sitting in silence at her kitchen table.
Sudden banging on the door made her jump. She stood from her chair but didn't answer the door. Once the banging came again, she ran to the door and opened it. There on her doorstep stood a soggy Roy in a suite and hat with a scarf around his neck. "Excuse me," he said, "I was wondering if you could help me with something."
"Roy...?" Kalia said in a small voice. "What the heck are you doing here?"
Roy grabbed her hand with amazing accuracy, the drug her out into the rain. "What are you doing?! If you hadn't noticed, there is a storm going on!" Lighting ran across the sky again and thunder rumbled.
"I know," Roy yelled over the noise ofthe rain. "I wanted to thank you for all that you did for me. But would you help me with one last thing?"
"And what is that," Kalia asked, now soaked like Roy.
"Would you help me enjoy the rain?"
Kalia blushed and smiled. "Well, since I'm already out here," she yelled over the rain.
Roy smiled and let go of her hand, but put an arm around her waist and one behind her neck, then leaned in and kissed her. Kalia was caught by surprise, but she wrapped her arms around his neck. They both stood in the rain, both enjoying it.

The End.
